New Race

NEW RACE

April 1981:Deniz Tek,Warwick Gilbert and Rob Younger join forces with Ron Asheton(STOOGES) and Dennis Thompson(MC5) and the New Race concept was born.

The band was booked to do 16 shows across the East Coast of Australia.

Plenty of these shows were recorded in anticipation of a live album being released after the tour.The gigs were packed and people came from everywhere to see the band play."Welcome to the Event" as quoted by Deniz Tek and an event it certainly was!

It took the band 4 or 5 shows to get into it but after that the gigs were dynamite.

Most of the songs they played were Radio Birdman originals with the remainder being a mixture of Visitors,Stooges,MC5 and Destroy All Monsters covers.

After all the shows were finished Asheton & Thompson returned to America to continue with there commitments.I think Deniz Tek's idea for the title of the Lp was very appropriate as the tour was a one off deal.

	Crying Sun/Haunted Road/Sad TV/Breaks My Heart/Looking At You/November 22,1963/Alone In The Endzone/Love Kills/Gotta Keep Movin'/Columbia/ REF:LP WEA RECORDS MID 1982	Ok forgetting all the overdubs I still think this is one of the best live albums around.It has since been reissued many times on Cd and Lp.

**"THE FIRST & THE LAST GERMAN PRESSING"**
	Crying Sun/Haunted Road/Sad TV/Breaks My Heart/Looking At You/November 22,1963/Alone In The Endzone/Love Kills/Gotta Keep Movin'/Columbia/ REF:LINE RECORDS GERMANY LATE 1983/Vinyl Lp	This Lp is a german pressing and features different cover art.The other difference is that it comes with a great inner sleeve of Deniz Tek.The cover comes without the symbol at the bottom and all the titles are in blue as you can see.

**"THE FIRST & THE LAST GERMAN PRESSING"**
	Crying Sun/Haunted Road/Sad TV/Breaks My Heart/Looking At You/November 22,1963/Alone In The Endzone/Love Kills/Gotta Keep Movin'/Columbia/ REF:LINE RECORDS GERMANY MID 1983/Vinyl Lp and amazingly released on CD in 1987. LICD 9.00104 O	This is another version that came out on Line Records in Germany.The cover is from the gig poster and it came out on white vinyl.There is another version of this on blue vinyl with a red & black cover but I have never seen one.

**"CRYING SUN 2ND PRESSING"**
	Crying Sun/Gotta Keep Movin REF:CITADEL CIT002 1983	A great double for a 45'.This single came just in a black sleeve.

**"CRYING SUN 1ST PRESSING"**
	Crying Sun/Gotta Keep Movin REF:CITADEL CIT002A 1983	This single is the first pressing of Crying Sun.As you can see the colours are different and also the single was packaged with a in concert poster.

**"THE FIRST & THE LAST U.K VERSION"**
	Crying Sun/Haunted Road/Sad TV/Breaks My Heart/Looking At You/November 22,1963/Alone In The Endzone/LOve Kills/Gotta Keep Movin'/Columbia/ REF:STATIK RECORDS U.K 1983 Vinyl Lp only.	This version contains the same tracks as the blue First and The Last but for me the cover on this one is awesome! Released only in England and Portugal.

**"THE FIRST TO PAY"**
	Smith & Wesson Blues/Haunted Road/Living World/I'm Loose/TV Eye/Love Kills/November 22,1963/455 Sd/Alone In The Endzone/Looking At You/New Race/Columbia/ REF:REVENGE MIG 9 FRANCE 1989 Lp And Cd copies exist.	Ron Asheton had tapes of certain gigs along the tour.According to him he gave these tapes to Revenge in France(sold them more likely). Certain band members have never been happy with his decision.Not bad sounding!

**"HAIL COLUMBIA 45"**
	Hail Columbia/Descent Into The Maelstrom. REF:REVENGE SS4 Limited Edition of 1000 copies on green vinyl. 1989	This is just the single that came out with the First To Pay L.P.The interesting thing is that Maelstrom doesn't appear on any of the albums.I wonder what other songs haven't been released yet!

**"THE SECOND WAVE"**
	Burn My Eye/Alone In The Endzone/Man With Golden Helmet/Breaks My Heart/Gotta Keep Moving/Crying Sun/Sad TV/I'm Loose/TV Eye/New Race/ REF:REVENGE MIG 29 1990 L.P and CD versions exist.	This is the better of the 2 Revenge Releases.It also gives everyone a chance to hear songs that were not on First And The Last.The sound is better than First To Pay.The Lp comes in green vinyl.

	Crying Sun/Haunted Road/Gotta Keep Moving/Breaks My Heart/Sad TV/I'm Loose/November 22,1963/Love Kills/Alone In The Endzone/Descent Into The Maelstrom/Looking At You/Columbia/ REF:ALIVE/TOTAL ENERGY NER3013 L.P and CD versions exist.1997	Totally remastered with 2 bonus tracks.For collectors you will notice that the version of "Maelstrom" is not New Race but Radio Birdman.Future pressings will not contain this.Coverart could have been a lot better!!
