In my early 50s, with many years of experience working with people and dogs for their common good, one of my greatest and most humbling satisfactions comes from the ability to awaken the passions of the first-time dog owner. That's my vocation, and convinced as i am of the importance of the task, I offer my guidance to owners in order that they and their dogs derive pleasure from the learning process, a process which may be direct or indirect but which must be based upon the moral principles necessary in today's changing world where owners often need to be reminded why they have chosen to have a dog : a wonderful experience, both emotional and psychological, one of life's lessons, particulary for the young, as well as a moral obligation to respect and to guide the animal in the most appropriate fashion.
Soon perhaps the age of wisdom will arrive, or at least the belief that the positive and mutually rewarding relationship developed as a result of this newly-found passion, these high -flown sentiments, this noble attitude, will be apparent when an owner and his /her dog appear on the field together. |
