Patients must pay their Doctor directly
at the time of the consultation by cash or cheque (no credit
cards accepted) and will receive a receipt for the French
Social Security (Feuille
de soins) or a receipt in English for private insurance
purposes.
In France, Doctors can be either
conventionee or non-conventionee.
Conventionee Doctors have a fixed rate of
consultation and their fees are re reimbursed by the Social
Security at a rate of 65%. The rest of the consultation is
usually re reimbursed by a private insurance ( mutuelle)
Non conventionee Doctors have varying
consultation rates (honoraires libres) and this is reimbursed
minimally by the Social Security but then 100% by most
mutuelles.
I am classified as a non conventionee
Doctor but all prescriptions, that is, medications, laboratory
tests, x-rays, scans etc. are reimbursed by the conventionee
sector.
If you have no French social security or
mutuelle, your medical insurance will re reimburse you on the
basis of a ‘pay and claim ‘ procedure and I will complete
the relevant forms necessary for reimbursement.
