For many years, Mr. Jared Olar, son of Mr. Joseph Olar, from Illinois, USA, wanted to find the current-day relatives of his grandparents ALECSIE OLAR and EUFROSINA PASCAR, who emigrated from Tereblecea (also called Terebleche, Terebleshti, or Porubne) in 1907 to Canada and later moved to the United States in 1912. With the help of the Orthodox Church parish records from Tereblecea, Mr. Olar was able to learn much about the Olar and Pascar families, but until 2008 he did not know what became of his Romanian cousins who stayed behind in Bucovina. In the parish records, their family names are spelled Olar, Olari, and Olariu, and Pascar, Pascari, and Pascariu. |

Alecsie Olar ("Alex") was born in 17 March 1883 in Tereblecea, son of
Ioan
Olar (born about 1836, died 1892) and Alecsandra Toderiuc
(born about 1844, died 1902). Ioan Olar's father
was named Andrei, and Ioan very probably had brothers named Gavril (born
1831, died 1911) and Toader (Teodor, born 1839) --
Gavril and Toader both were sons of an Andrei Olar in Tereblecea,
and Toader and Gavril both had a large number of children
and grandchildren. Ioan and Alecsandra are said to
have had 10 children, 6 of whom died as children
or babies. Alecsie's oldest brother was MIHAI or Michail (born
about 1868), who had a son named SERGHEI (born 1 March
1906). Mihai's first wife was named Teodora (born
about 1871, died 1900), also called "Todosia." His second wife, the
mother of Serghei, was Cristina Cosic, also called
"Iustina." (See below for more information about
Mihai's family.) It is said that another older brother of Alecsie
was named Iacob. Ioan and Alecsandra also had a son named Onufrei (born
1881), and daughters named Marie (said to have
died when she was 10 years old), Eleana
(born 1885, died 1893), and Domnica (born 1889, died 1893). |
Alex and Rose left Tereblecea in early 1907 and emigrated to Canada. The name
of the ship that brought them to Canada has not yet been discovered, but they
are said to have made port at St. John, Canada, in May 1907. At first they
lived in Montreal, but in November 1912 they moved to Minnesota in the U.S.
Eventually they settled near Chicago in Illinois. Alex and Rose had 13
children: John (1910-2003), three children (one of then named Max) who died as
babies (born 1912-1915), Marion (1916-2001), Lawrence (1918-1996), Linda
(1920-2008), Samuel (1922-1975), Aurel (1924-), Helen (1926-1993), Joseph
(1927-), Arthur (1930-1931), and Virginia (1932-1990). The grandchildren and
great-grandchildren of Alex and Rose Olar are very numerous and have spread
all over the U.S. Contact:
