DICO is a chinese dictionary, a Windows 9x/2000/XP program intended to help you read Chinese electronic texts.

DICO is a free shareware, download and use freely. You may also redistribute it, providing you include in the distribution a reference to this page.

new DICO now supports Unicode ; this means that you can view chinese without any Chinese system ; simply grab a free Unicode font from the Web (see readme.txt for more details).
V1.3.2 is out : better unicode integration, many bugs corrected, fanti/jianti toggle and more.

Main features

  • search on chinese, pinyin or english, separate words or whole expressions
  • search characters by radical
  • select chinese text in any application and type ctrl-C to consult dictionary
  • can use any dictionary file conforming to the CEdict format
  • user-configurable fonts, sizes, colors ...

Installation Instructions

Download either the file DICO-ONLY.ZIP if you already have the CEdict.B5 file, or the file DICO.ZIP otherwise.

Create a new directory and unzip the file into it. Drag the DICO.EXE file and drop it on your desktop.

Done !
View the readme.txt file.
Get the newest version of the dictionary file CEdict.b5

  • NJStar Communicator  is recent and of the same quality as was their Chinese-Word Processor
  • Chinese Star is quite correct, but their distribution on the net is incomprehensible. Get it from here
  • RichWin is another good environment but I seem to remember that I had a problem with the demo version. Anyway ...
  • Maybe you would like to consult the CNApps List at IFCSS for all kinds of Chinese-related software
